Forza Horizon 6 is the next-generation open-world racing game from Playground Games, and the first in the series to set the Horizon Festival in Japan. It launched on May 19, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC (Microsoft Store / Steam), with a PS5 version planned for later in 2026.

The Japan Setting

Forza Horizon 6 marks the series’ first-ever move to Japan.

Players start as a tourist, working their way up through Horizon Qualifiers to earn wristbands and rise through the ranks. Earning the gold wristband unlocks a hidden area on the map — Legend Island.

The map is the largest in series history — Tokyo’s urban area alone is five times the size of Guanajuato in Forza Horizon 5. From the neon-lit streets of Tokyo to the winding mountain roads of Mount Haruna, from the countryside of Mount Fuji’s foothills to the high-speed bayside highways, map density and verticality are both series-best. For players who have long waited for a Japan-based entry, this is also the first time the series has fully embraced Japanese automotive culture, including Tokyo’s city streets, mountain driving, and the classic JDM atmosphere.

Vehicle Roster

Forza Horizon 6 launches with over 550 real-world vehicles, the largest launch lineup in series history. The cover cars are the Toyota GR GT Prototype and the Toyota Land Cruiser.

Vehicles can be acquired through race rewards, Seasonal Playlists, Barn Finds, the Auction House, and more. The customization system has been significantly expanded with deeper body part and livery options. Performance classes have been completely reworked for better balance, each car features unique tire wear visuals, and engine sounds have been made more authentic.

For collectors, the term “complete edition” usually refers to a version that includes the Car Pass and additional vehicle content.

Gameplay Modes

Timed Races are a new feature, allowing players to enter permanent circuits on the map and challenge themselves to set the fastest lap times. Each completed lap earns points and XP, and the system shows friends’ times and your own rankings.

Horizon Rush is a new event type focused on route planning and high-speed precision driving, challenging players to complete timed runs in special areas across the open map. It supports single-player, co-op, and multiplayer races.

Home and Garage Customization is another major highlight. Players can purchase and decorate their own houses and garages, showcasing their most prized vehicle collections, and even invite friends to visit. An empty estate allows players to build it out to their own preferences.

Vibe Driving lets players simply cruise around Japan without worrying about races, making it easy to enjoy the scenery at their own pace.

In multiplayer, new modes include seamless timed races and Touge (mountain pass) duels, plus the ability to host open car meets at iconic locations. The Blueprint feature has also been upgraded with a new tool called Horizon CoLab, which allows players to build custom tracks together.

Graphics & Technology

The PC version supports ray tracing and NVIDIA DLSS technology, delivering improved lighting and performance. The game features a dynamic seasons system, cycling through all four seasons — the same mountain road drives completely differently in snow than in clear weather.
