On July 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM, the PC version of Sea of Remnants officially launched in China. Developed by NetEase’s Joker Studio over the course of seven years, this ocean adventure RPG began pre-downloads on July 6.

It’s arguably the most distinctive title of the 2026 summer gaming season — gothic puppet art style, a unique “Forgotten” mechanic tied to falling into the sea, and dual combat systems across land and sea. In the open-world nautical genre, it’s carving a path entirely different from its competitors.

Total pre-registrations have surpassed 33 million.

What Is Sea of Remnants?

In short: you play as a puppet captain whose wooden body dissolves upon falling into the sea. If your character dies, all items collected during that run are lost. The core loop revolves around five pillars: city building, character development, island exploration, turn-based squad combat, and free-roam sailing.

The open world spans over 256 square kilometers, featuring 17 dynamic weather variations and ecologically diverse islands with volcanoes, rainforests, and white-sand beaches. The PC launch version opens with two major sea zones — the Baisha Sea and the Duqiao Sea — with a third, the Yinmi Sea, unlocking at the end of July. The main city, Orbtopia, features a multi-ending system where your choices and accumulated actions unlock exclusive endings.

On the technical side, the PC version supports NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 and path tracing technology. Minimum system requirements: Intel i7-7700K or AMD R5 1600 (or equivalent), GTX 1060 6GB or Radeon RX 480 8GB (or equivalent), 16GB RAM, and an SSD with 80GB of available storage.

Sea of Remnants Launch Rewards: 100 Free Pulls + a Free SSR Selector

Pre-registration rewards: Players who pre-registered can claim a free Black Ticket crew member of their choice, two premium outfits, exclusive avatars and frames, plus additional rewards from events like the “Hamster God Welcome Gift” and “The Old Captain’s Seven-Day Treasure” — totaling 100 free recruitment pulls.

Beginner banner guarantee: The beginner banner offers a guaranteed SSR Black Ticket crew member within 40 pulls. After completing the main quest “First Encounter,” you can choose one SSR from a pool of six Black Ticket crew members. In other words, you can start the game with two powerful SSR crew members right away.

Daily login rewards: Logging in consecutively for 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 days grants exclusive login bonuses, including 14,000 Big Face Coins and other rewards.

Redemption code: Use the code ywzh2026 — valid from July 9 to August 31.

Launch events: The first month will feature over 20 crew members across six attributes, including the limited-time banner character “Molly the Delusion Tailor” and seasonal crew member “Hegel.” Based on the officially announced event schedule, players who actively participate in the first month’s launch events can expect to unlock the limited SSR character “Molly” within about three weeks.

Which Black Ticket SSR Should You Choose?

After progressing through the main story to the captain’s quarters, you’ll receive a Black Ticket selector — choose one SSR from a pool of six.

Top recommendation: Iron Fist Commander

This character provides party-wide shields and damage sharing — the strongest survival option. Early on, the standard three-person team setup is main DPS + sub-DPS + healer. While Iron Fist Commander doesn’t deal damage, paired with the free characters you receive, you can outlast any boss. Later, when you unlock four-person teams, it remains a strong choice for high-difficulty and endgame content.

DPS alternatives: If you prioritize clear speed, consider Haizang or Xiaofutou — pure DPS characters. Make them your sole main carry and funnel all upgrade materials into them.

Early team formula: The most cost-effective early lineup is “1 main DPS + 1 support + 1 healer.” The three characters you get at the start — the protagonist, Aisi, and the Prophet (Hu Hua Xian Zhi) — are enough to carry you through all early story content. The Prophet, obtained through the tutorial gacha, is a dedicated healer and your team’s lifeline during the early game.

Beginner pitfall to avoid: Don’t force a full four-gold-card team. Many new players assume more gold cards means a stronger team, but spreading your resources thin across multiple SSRs leaves everyone under-leveled. It’s far more effective to focus on a single, well-synergized three-person team than to have a pile of high-rarity characters with no resources to upgrade them.

When Does the Mobile Version Launch?

The mobile version (Android/iOS) will launch on July 23.

PC, Android, and iOS share full cross-platform data — the same account uses the same UID across all platforms. If you start on PC, your progress will carry over seamlessly when the mobile version arrives.

Known Issues at Launch

1. Server stress: New launch titles often experience server load fluctuations during peak hours. Consider playing during off-peak times to avoid congestion.

2. Overseas access latency: Players outside China may experience slow load times on the official website — switching DNS or using a game booster may help.

3. Device compatibility: Some devices reported stuttering, crashes, or overheating during testing. The development team has set up a dedicated optimization group to address these issues.

4. The “hardcore” learning curve: The mechanic where puppets dissolve in water and items are lost on death can be jarring for players accustomed to “just respawn and try again.” It takes some adjustment.

Is Sea of Remnants Worth Playing?

Sea of Remnants is a product that’s been in the works for seven years. NetEase CEO Ding Lei mentioned the game specifically during the company’s Q2 and Q3 2025 earnings calls, making it clear that NetEase places “great importance” on it. In April 2026, the game officially received its license from the National Press and Publication Administration.

PC first on July 9, mobile to follow on July 23. NetEase’s biggest title of the summer has officially set sail.

Note: The July 9 launch is the China PC open beta. An overseas release date has not yet been announced, though the game is confirmed for a 2026 global launch on PC (Steam), PS5, iOS, and Android.
